Celebrating 25 **Shot @ Life**

This post is inspired by Shot@Life, an initiative of the United Nations Foundation that educates, connects and empowers the championing of vaccines as one of the most cost effective ways to save the lives of children in the world’s hardest to reach places.
25
Today, I celebrate all 25 year olds who are embracing their awesome. It is an age full of hopes, dreams and promise. When cultivated with abundant love, a 25 year old is powerful and fearless. Join me today in celebrating the magnificence of this age, and while you are at it, leave a comment below to give a future 25 year old a shot at life.

During Shot@Life’s Blogust, 31 bloggers, one each day in August, are writing about moments that matter. For every comment on this post and the 30 other posts, Walgreens will donate a vaccine (up to 50,000 vaccines). A child dies every 20 seconds from a vaccine-preventable disease. We can change this reality and help save kids’ lives!
Blogust is also part of a wider initiative proudly supported by Walgreens, the “Get a Shot. Give a Shot.” campaign. Walgreens has committed $500,000 to donate up to 3 million vaccines for those kids who need them most. Beginning September 3 through October 14, when you go to Walgreens to get your flu shot, Walgreens will donate a vaccine to the Shot@Life campaign!
(*Subject to availability. Some restrictions apply. See pharmacy for details.)

  1. My daughter will be 25 in October. She is in graduate school and full of ideas and excitement about a future career in child development research. I hope Walgreens’ vaccination program will give more children a chance to reach the age of 25.

  2. Loved it and you! Wish I were 25 again …

  3. 25 seems so long ago, but it was only 6 years. It’s amazing how much you change from then until 30.

  4. I really liked your point about asking for help and looking for a mentor. Pride usually gets in the way but it’s so important to continue to move forward. From my experiences, I would also add that it’s important to be flexible in your dreams and goals. While, at 25, I was on my way to one career I thought I would be in for my whole life, I have changed my careers a couple times, experiencing more than I thought I ever would and happy to do so, rather than being stuck in one thing that really didn’t suit me. I believe life is an adventure and, at 25, the adventure’s just beginning. One more comment = one more shot at the adventure!

    • Michele, great point about being flexible with your dreams and goals. I know what I thought I wanted to do is not what I want to do now that I am older. To know the things I know now at 25 would have changed the course of my life. Thank you for commenting and for sharing even more great advice.

  5. Glad to have the chance to donate a shot. What a great thing.

  6. Elaine Bush says:

Every child needs the shot to help them have the best life possible!

  7. The age of 25 was a very special age for me because on my 25th birthday I received the miracle of the gift of life through a multivisceral, six-organ, transplant. It is the reason I am still alive today, and I give thanks to God and my donor family everyday. This was something that could not be planned, but it was as though was reassuring that everything was going to be alright by giving me such a wonderful birthday present. Now every year I celebrate my double birthday with great joy and try to honor those who gave during a hard time by taking good care of myself and devoting myself as much as possible to helping others. Thank you for this opportunity here.

  8. Patricia La Brie says:

  24. I’m 25! It’s an interesting time because you realize you are really really really grown ! It’s a great time , because you still have much life , hope , promise , & a future ! No matter where you are in life or what has happened you can start over. You can follow your dreams ! You can change the world ! Don’t let any negative thought consume you ! Carpe diem!

    • Then you already know you are awesome, Jasmine! I love everything you had to say in your comment. Thank you, my friend.

25 is a great age. Not too young, not too old. Just right.

  26. Thanks for reminding us 25 is such a great age! My son just turned 25 this month and he is living life to the fullest! When children are given a shot at life the world sees amazing results! Thank you, thanks Walgreens, and thanks Shot@Life!

  27. I can barely remember 25!! My 17 year old just informed me that I am a “permissive” parent rather than an “authoritarian” one. I wonder if she’ll feel that way in eight years.

  28. Thank you for helping children get a shot at life.

  29. A GFWC-WI member thanks you.

  30. Laureen McCorkle says:

    What a great cause!

  31. Great post Lucrecer! Yes when I look back at 25 I had my first real job working for a promotional products company learning everything I could and so full of energy. The retired owners of the business are still mentors of mine, embrace 25, take everything in, learn everything you can! Life’s an adventure and each day is a gift!

  32. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing your idea of what 25 means.

  34. Ginger Goetz says:

Twenty five was such an incredible and exciting year. I got fired from my first real job, started to freelance and met my husband that year. Got engaged,, bought a house and seriously grew up a lot! Never will forget 25.

    • Oh, Ginger! I remember your calling me to tell me about losing that first job, but I also remember all the amazing things that happened when that job was over. Look at you now!

  35. I have the fondest memories of being 25. Thanks for making me remember, Lucrecer! Miss you, my dear friend.

  36. Love Blogust and your posts. Xoxo

  37. Thanks for sharing, and to Walgreens for donating!

  38. Lovely post Lucrecer…and such a wonderful way to bring to light the need for vaccines for children, especially to those that can’t always have access to them! 25 and today…..just keeps getting better woman!

  39. Oh to be 25 again. The world is yours, so to speak.

  40. YES! A destiny, a future, goals! Not just for you, but for your baby. Gosh, did I ever NOT know who I was or wanted to be at 25. Married to the wrong person, in the wrong job and completely unaware of it. Much older and wiser now. As they say…”too soon old and too late smart.”

  52. “Beginning September 3 through October 14, when you go to Walgreens to get your flu shot, Walgreens will donate a vaccine to the Shot@Life campaign!” I did not know this! Putting it on the calendar - wow! Also… about 25… I was pregnant with my first… such a sweet season.

  53. So cool! And here is one more vaccine.

  54. Thanks for supporting Shot@Life! I love your reference to “future 25-year-olds”!

  55. Delores Van Horn says:

Loved your message - you gave it with such passion - I bet you have an amazing daughter - no matter her age right now. And, 25 - so long ago for me, but so recent for one of my granddaughters. I saw her in your message. Thanks for sharing and thanks for helping give the gift of life to others through the vaccination program.

    • Delores, thank you. For your kind words and for helping a child to see the age of 25 and beyond. Thank you.

  56. LOVE …
25, I remember it well, I had arrived back from a year traveling Europe after college and was ready to take on the world.
What I would love to be able to tell my 25 yr old self now … but instead God blessed me with two girls of my own … and so instead of wishing a change in my life, I can lead them into a life where they have every opportunity available to bring change all around.
    And that, is good.

    • I am right there with you on what I would tell my 25 year old self. Like you, I have a couple of girls that I am trying to share my wisdom with and a little boy, too. I want them to love being 25.

  57. I turned 25 this year. At first I was really freaked out by the number, it was starting to feel like time was running out, but as I get more comfortable with it I’m realizing how the really exciting times and accomplishments are still to come. It is an amazing age.

Thanks for sharing and for your insights.

    • Oh, Hannah! You have SO much time in front of you. Enjoy it, love it and make the most of it. I am so excited for you.

  58. You’re right, 25 is amazing! I had my first child at 25. (I almost forgot how old I was when that happened, until I watched your video.) Really, 25-year-olds are awesome!

And this is not related, but I absolutely love that mirror in your video. I know that had nothing to do with it, but I was mesmerized watching the infinite reflections. (I always am, when I see things like that.) It was very cool.

    • Aww, thanks for sharing your story and commenting. Also, I love shooting in front of the mirrors. They add a little something to my videos and the light in my room is awesome!

  59. Thanks for sharing

  60. 25 or fifty they are all great - K

  61. I loved your video! Awesome! Thanks for your great advice, information and for helping kids get vaccinated. My youngest son and his wife, my daughter in law are both 25 and it is an exciting time of life. They have big dreams and big plans and I know God will guide and protect them to accomplish their goals and more.
God bless you & your daughter. I’m sure she’s as wonderful as her Mom is! <3

    • I am so glad you liked the video, Lynn. Blessings to you, your son and his wife. And, my daughter is great. I have two more and all my kids are my heart. I am so grateful for them.

  62. Virginia Griffith says:

I remember 25 and my vision of a world at peace. My husband and I were teachers and thought that we could save the world.
25 is such a wonderful age.
We are long past 25 and both of our children are too.
Our children have the same feelings as we and we all think that there is hope for the future if we work to achieve it.
Dreams must be cultivated with strong hope and hard work.
Thanks for the memories and for the vaccines that will provide hope for those less fortunate

  63. Chaz Walter says:

    Great post!

  64. You’re so right about the emotional state of 25. The future seems so far and wide and that’s how all arpund the world should feel at that age. Here’s a comment to grant a bit of those possibilities.

    • Thanks, Ana. I wish for us all to remember the hope and dreams we had when we were 25 for we can give hope to our young people.

    Here’s to 25!

  71. Wonderful post!

  72. for those of us who believe in the importance of vaccinations, this is an important cause! (I personally would never look back at myself at 25 LOL)

    • I would go back to 25 if I could change a few things, but only if I could take the knowledge I have right now. Thank you for commenting, Kate.

  73. Great post! Very encouraging to 25 year olds, like myself, to do great things!

  74. I am not yet 25, but so far my goal is to be a medical technologist. If I can prevent any child from dying before their time, I will be truly thankful. Vaccinations are so important, and losing someone from a preventable disease should not happen.

  75. Turning 25 in a little over two weeks. Thank you for the love and support!

  76. Thanks

  77. Glad I could contribute to this vaccination program!

  78. Great advice for 25 year olds; and great meeting you via video. Honored to be part of Blogust with you.

Glad to be even a little part of this great cause, thank you

  89. YES! Celebrate being 25. No so called “quarter life crisis”. Instead remember that God has great plans for those who love him. Always expect the best and thank God for every day of life you have.

  90. Thanks for being part of this wonderful campaign and for sharing part of your story and that of your family. It is very heart-warming to know there are people out there like you and fellow commentators who share my passion for making this world a better place, one blog, one vaccine and one kind message at a time. Together indeed we can make a positive and influential difference. Kudos to all of you. Cheers, Vivian

  91. Christine Vara says:

I remember a discussion I had some years ago with my 40-something friends. The question came up, “If you could pick any age in your life that you would want to be for the rest of eternity, what age would that be?” Most agreed that their mid to late 20s were the ideal time of their lives. A time when they had just enough responsibility, but not too much…when they full of excitement about their jobs and the career opportunities ahead of them…and where they were comfortable with the person they had become, as well as the person they imagined they would one day be. This conversation, along with your post today, reminds me that we should never take any age for granted. I am grateful for vaccines because they are constantly working to prevent diseases. Instead of worrying if our children’s may live to 25 (like many other parents in other countries do) we get to focus on the promise of 25. Thank you for supporting Shot@Life’s Blogust and giving children around the world an opportunity to receive vaccines that may help ensure they get to celebrate 25!

  92. I’m 25+10 and I love it <3
    Love you
    Love Blogust
    Love Shot at Life
    <3

  93. Love the celebration of 25! This post made me think back to that time in my life. 25 is that time when our frontal lobes fully develop and we are realizing “our growness” and wanting to be acknowledged as grown. At 25, I was ready to take on the world, I had energy, strength, and that fearless belief that nothing and no one could stop me. Life does not allow us to stay in that place but we can have the spirit to carry it on and become great!

  94. This is beautiful. Oh to be 25 again. My prayer is that all of the wonderful babies who receive vaccines make it well beyond 25. Thank you for this post and for supporting Shot@Life.

  95. RonnieBMWK says:

May all twenty-five-years-olds have the opportunity to try and to learn new things, in good health.

  101. Connie Flores says:

  107. I remember being 25 and getting a dream job. Every girl should have the chance to be 25 and shine, shine, shine!

  108. Thanks for inspiring the young ones n reminding us older ones to encourage them.

  109. Thanks for supporting Shot@Life!

  110. Great post! Thanks for sharing your comments, Lucrecer. Your daughter is lucky to have such a great mom, and I’m very glad you didn’t let motherhood keep you from pursuing your dreams. I liked what you said about knowing that you needed to set an example for your daughter - so true! I also liked your comment about asking for help when we need it, which is a sign of strength rather than weakness. I totally agree with that concept.

  111. awesome! thanks for sharing

  112. Caryn/The Mid Life Guru says:

Outstanding celebration of 25!!! You are so poised and so confident and give such great perspectives. I especially loved the mirror effect. Thanks for inspiring me today.

social process than early adulthood.Youth have had experience/sense of health consciousness &could achieve human social creativity in an unpredictability life
complexities.Youth should be responsible for biological life for social process addressing.Youth could cultivate &develop essential qualities of good life consciousness consistency.Healthy 25 years of youth life should not address drugs abuse, alcohol, ill nature anti social practices for future years of whole life.
